Iconic orotone, or goldtone, photograph by famed Seattle, Washington photographer EDWARD S. CURTIS (1868 - 1952, American/Washington + Californian), titled "The Vanishing Race - Navajo." Depicting a band of Navajo disappearing on horseback into the Canyon de Chelly with the setting sun, the image is one of Curtis' most iconic and most sought-after images. Seattle, Washington Studio, ca. 1917 - early 1920s. Signed in the lower right, "Curtis". Housed in the original gilt gesso Edward Curtis pie crust, or batwing, style Arts & Crafts frame, with studio label on verso. Backed with original E. Curtis advertsing poster.
